Trends in Arctic seasonal and extreme precipitation in recent decades

Daily precipitation data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ERA-Interim) 1979 to 2016 are analyzed determine trends in seasonal and extreme across pan-Arctic estimate contributions dynamic (e.g., changes circulation patterns) thermodynamic processes sea ice melt–water vapor feedback) their interactions. The total generally consistent with occurrence of precipitation. Although vary considerably direction magnitude seasons, more regions experience a statistically significant positive trend than negative trend, particularly autumn winter seasons over areas Arctic Ocean northern North Atlantic. Statistically mostly found Eurasian America. account 85% trends, rest explained by interaction between processes.
